Calamian deerCommun name : Calamian deer
Latin name : Axis calamianensis (Heude 1888)
Localisation : Philippines, Calamian islands.
Habitat : forests and clearings
Size : 105-115 cm lengh, 60-75 cm high, 36-50 kg

The short coat is a uniform tawny brown in colouration.
Compared to the other "hog deer", the Calamian deer has relatively long legs, which are darker than the rest of the body.

Localisation : from Himalaya to Ceylan, introduced in Yugoslavia, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Texas and Hawaii.
Habitat : pasture near water
Size :

Live in group of 10 to 30 heads with in general 2 or 3 males. The reproductive cycle and the period of fall of wood vary much from one province to another. The rut is in May in central provinces, august/septembre in the provinces of the south and in winter in north. It differs from the Fallow Deer by non palmate antler and the absence of visible Adam's apple.

Hog DeerCommun name : Hog Deer
Latin name : Axis porcinus (Zimmermann 1780)
Localisation : India, Ceylon, Indo-China and the Philippines, introduced into the south of Australia .
Habitat : Forests, clearings, and grasslands
Size : 105-115 cm length, 60-75 cm high, 36-50 kg

Heavy and rather low on legs. The coat is an ochre-brown colour. Solitary cervidae. The name 'hog deer' may come from this deer's squat frame and pig-like manner of moving through the forest.

Latin name : Axis kuhlii (Müller 1840)
Localisation : Indonesia, Bawean islands.
Habitat : forests and clearings
Size : 105-115 cm length, 70 cm high, 36-50 kg

The general colouration of the short, coarse coat is a uniform brown. The body is long and rounded and the legs shorter in the front than the back, a combination which gives this deer a stocky, crouching appearance. The shy Bawean deer is mainly active at night, leaving their resting places in the undergrowth to graze in clearings and fields.
